Description
The Big Stockwhip sits at the gateway to the 20-acre 'eco-tourism' bush retreat of renowned whip maker Mick Denigan. This steel structure, with dimensions of 18.5 metres by 7.5 metres, is a perfect replica of a stockwhip. It took three months to build and is painted in the Northern Territory's colours of red, black and ochre.
Mick's Whips Homestead is an hours drive south of Darwin in the Northern Territory. The opening of the Homestead and launch of the "Big Stockwhip" took place on the 3rd of April, 2003 by Mr Tim Fischer, former Deputy Prime Minister.
Over the years, Mick has taught more than 30 000 people to crack a whip and has even added 'whip art' to his repertoire - the art of lashing a canvas with a paint-covered whip. These artworks would certainly make for an interesting gift or a special reminder of your trip to Australia.
The Big Stockwhip is located at Mick's Whips Homestead, 60 kilometres south of Darwin (7 kilometres off the Stuart Highway) between Acacia and Noonamah. Tel: (08) 8988 6400.
