Description
Port Stephens is a large natural harbour located about 160 kilometres north-east of Sydney. With an area of approximately 104 km², Port Stephens is larger than Sydney Harbour and has a narrow entrance between two striking hills of volcanic origin. Below is some information about some of the places you might like to visit along the southern coast of Point Stephens:
Anna Bay is a town immediately adjacent to the north-eastern end of Stockton Beach - a 32 kilometre stretch of sand popular for fishing and four-wheel driving. The town provides one of the major entry points to the beach, which has been the site of many shipwrecks and aircraft crashes over the years.
Fishermans Bay is a small suburb adjacent to Anna Bay, which extends into the Tomaree National Park. There is some accommodation available here, and you can see some of the resident dolphins or humpback whales passing through, depending on the season.
Boat Harbour is a primarily residential community, but worth visiting for the view. From the eastern most end of Ocean Parade in the highest part of the suburb, it is possible to follow the coast southwards to the horizon on a clear day to see well beyond Newcastle.
At One Mile Beach there is a lot to do: bushwalking, surfing, fishing, arts & crafts, trivia nights, karaoke, sand boarding, wining & dining, whale watching and much more.
