Description
There are plenty of big crocodiles in Australia - some more dangerous than others - but there is only one Big Boxing Croc. Standing on his hind legs, this croc reaches a height of 13 metres and wears a pair of big red boxing gloves on his front legs - the inspiration for his design comes from the boxing kangaroo mascot of Australia's America's Cup campaigns. Made from fibreglass and built in 1987, the cost of this croc came to $137 000!
Humpty Doo, where the Big Boxing Croc can be found, is a small town around 40 kilometres from Darwin. Like many Big Things in northern Australia, it's built to withstand cyclones. It is a humorous reminder of the numerous saltwater crocodiles that roam the waterways in the Northern Territory, 10 000 of which are housed in Janamba Crocodile Farm in Humpty Doo.
The Big Boxing Croc is located at the Humpty Doo Bush Shop, 340 Arnhem Highway, Humpty Doo. Tel: (08) 8988 2344.
