Description

Jindabyne is a modern town that overlooks Lake Jindabyne (an artificial lake which flooded the old town) near the Snowy Mountains. It is one of the highest settlements of its size in Australia, at approximately 900 metres above sea level. Jindabyne is also home to the visitors centre for Kosciuszko National Park, the largest National Park in New South Wales.

The area is home to many native animals including echidnas, kangaroos, wallabies, emus, wombats, possums, flying foxes, wedge-tailed eagles, many parrots and cockatoos (including the huge Black Cockatoo), many endemic wild flowers and also home to deer and wild horses or 'brumbies'.

In winter, Jindabyne is a base for skiers bound for the major resorts in Kosciuszko National Park, including Thredbo and Perisher Blue. For the rest of the year it's a great place from which to go bushwalking, mountain biking, whitewater rafting and canoeing, horse riding and kayaking. The lake provides superb opportunities for trout fishing and water sports.

Located between Sydney and Melbourne, and around 2 and a half hours drive south of Canberra, Jindabyne is a great destination for any traveller.
