Description
The Big Orange is the most famous icon of Gayndah, which also rivals Mundubbera with its Big Mandarin for the title of "Citrus Capital of Queensland". Originally built in 1977 at a roadside fruit stall, the Big Orange has since been moved about 500 metres to its current location south of the town centre on the Burnett Highway.
Gayndah is the oldest official town in Queensland and is now the centre of Queensland's largest citrus growing area. The Gayndah Orange Festival is held every two years to celebrate this industry. At the Big Orange you can find tourist information about the local area, as well as ordering some of the local produce to be delivered to your door.
If you happen to be passing through Gayndah when the fruit is in season (April to September), make sure you stop and try some!
The Big Orange is located on Maryborough Road (corner of Mick Lutvey Street), Gayndah. Tel: (07) 4161 1500.
