Description
For climbers, Frenchmans Cap offers a variety of routes on generally sound, quarzite rock. You'll find some of Australia's best and longest adventure routes here. It will also take a 25 kilometre walk to get to the climbing, but of course that just adds to the adventure.
In keeping with the name of the mountain some of the climbs also have French names, including A Toire La Gloire (better known as The Sydney Route) - a 380 metre, 13-pitch, Australian grade 17 climb on the south-east face - and Tierry Le Fronde - a 150 metre, six-pitch, Australian grade 16 climb on the Tahune Face. Both of these are traditional climbs.
Best Time To Go
Most people climb here between February and May. It can be snow-bound in winter, but some people like it that way!
