Description
Booroomba is an adventure climber's paradise located in Namadgi National Park, around 40 kilometres south-west of Canberra. It has some lovely cheese-grater slabs with good exposure. The rock is granite - clean and solid with great friction, but watch out for those crystals that like to pop out after all these millennia just when you have your hand on them.
This is by far the best climbing region in the ACT, with the longest and the greatest number of climbs. There are some hard steep faces such as Snickers Wall which are bolted, as are many of the slabs, although sparingly. You'll find around 300 routes here, with all grades up to 25.
Best Time To Go
The best climbing is in autumn (March to May) and spring (September to November). However, the cliff runs northeast to southwest and there is shade in summer behind the North Buttress and at the tip of the South Buttress. Beware that at 1300 metres above sea level, the weather is changeable. You might get snowed on in winter.
