Description
The Big Banana, the first and best known of Australia's Big Things, has attracted millions of tourists since it opened in December 1964. Over the last 40 years the Big Banana has grown into one of The Coffs Coasts most recognised tourist attractions with fun rides, educational tours and shows, recreational facilities and a fantastic selection of food and gift products. Located just north of Coffs Harbour, the Big Banana has something for everyone.
The large recreational facilities attached to the statue are, statistically, the most popular leisure facilities on the Australian East Coast. Especially, the artificial ski slope built in 2002 competes with ski areas in New Zealand for visitor numbers and popularity.

Go Bananas
You can still walk through the Big Banana and see illuminated
colour slides showing the banana production process from plantation to harvesting, just as you could when it first opened in 1964.
You can buy any number of fresh bananas from the Banana Barn, as well as other banana products including dried bananas, chipped bananas, and banana jams, chutneys and pickles. At the Cockatoo Cafe and Ice Creamery you can try the famous choc-coated frozen bananas, make a meal of the huge Big Banana Split, or enjoy banana cake or freshly made banana muffins. For those who would prefer to take a piece of the Big Banana home there are plenty of non-edible banana items to buy as well at the souvenir shop, which claims to have the biggest collection of banana-themed souvenirs and gifts in the world!
And just how big is the Big Banana?? A whopping 13 metres long, 5 metres high and 2.4 metres wide - pretty impressive, as far as lurid yellow ferroconcrete bananas go.
The Big Banana is located on the western side of the Pacific Highway, 3 kilometres north of Coffs Harbour. Tel: (02) 6652 4355.
