Description
Bimberi Peak (or Mount Bimberi) is part of the southern Brindabella Mountains and is located within the ACT's Bimberi Wilderness Area, nestled between Namadgi and Kosciuszko national parks. With eight peaks standing over 1700 metres high, Namadgi National Park is noted for the quality of its bushwalking. Bimberi Peak tops the lot at 1912 metres, making it the highest peak in the Australian Capital Territory.
Getting To The Top
Bimberi is a pretty remote peak to reach and anyone attempting it should contact Namadgi National Park visitors centre for up-to-date information, advice and maps. There are 4WD tracks that get you fairly close to the starting point of Murray Gap.
Alternatively, you might like to make this summit a side trip from the 650 kilometre-long Australian Alps Walking Track as it winds its way through Murray Gap. This will add an extra four hours to the hike.
Conditions are best, and safest, in summer, but with adequate preparation and equipment, experienced mountain walkers could attempt this hike at any time of year.
