Description

Lake Nuga Nuga, the largest natural water body in the Central Queensland sandstone belt, is bird watchers paradise. Large numbers of birds such as pelicans and black swans use the lake all the times. Said to have formed by a pair of Mundagarri (Rainbow Serpents) to keep their skin wet, the lake puts on a fantastic show bi-annually when purple water lilies carpet its surface. The many dead trees throughout the water area may indicate its relatively short period of existance. Lake Nuga Nuga can be reached on a 128km mostly dirt road one way from Injune, so make sure to fill up petrol there.
