Description

Robinson Gorge Secton

The Expedition National Park can be reached on dirt roads from both sides - Injune and Taroom. Robinson Gorge is one of the main features of the large and remote Expedition Range. It winds for 14km between sheer sandstone cliffs up to 100m high. The gorge is unusual – if begins as a broad, shallow basin before narrowing to a deep pool in a narrow gorge only six meters wide near its southern end. Travel 128km or two hours north-west of Taroom all on gravel road. The last 16km is suitable only for 4WD vehicles.

Lonesome Section

Lonesome National Park is a treat with its candlestick sandstone monoliths, deserted 90 year old boundary riders hut and rare Black Striped Wallabies. From the lookout, the view stretches across the Arcadia Valley - one of the best beef-producing areas in Queensland, the Dawson River, Carnarvon Ranges and mountain spurs. Platypus and five species of turtle use the permanent waterholes along Dawson River. From Injune travel north 37km and turn right onto Arcadia Valley Access Road. Drive 18km (of which 4km is gravel) to Lonesome Lookout. Keep driving through the remote Arcadia Valley to Lake Nuga Nuga or back to the Carnarvon Highway all on gravel.
