Description
The big ram is officially known as the Giant Ram and affectionately known as 'Big Baart'. Standing watch over Wagin, the centre of a wool and wheatgrowing industry, he can be seen from any road entering the town.
Each year in March, Wagin hosts up to 30 000 visitors for Woolorama, a two day sheep and agricultural show - also the inspiration for building the Giant Ram. Standing at 7 metres tall and 15 metres long, Bart is 9.2 times larger than the real ram on which he was modelled - the winning stud ram of the 1985 show.
Big Baart has acquired the status of official town mascot and features on all the street signs in town (which glow at night), as well as on a number of souvenir items! Despite his age, the occasional touch of paint has kept Wagin's Giant Ram in pristine condition.
The Giant Ram is located in the Giant Ram Park, Arthur River Road, Wagin. Tel: (08) 9461 3333.
