Description

The Big Camera is owned and operated by 'Chic' Wadley, a qualified electronics engineer and keen photographer, who establised Memories Photographic Museum - the only museum of photography in Australia. In 1995, Chic bought an old service station and altered the front of the building to look like a camera. Entrance to the museum is through the lens!

Meckering lies 135 kilometres east of Perth and was once destroyed when it was hit by an earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter Scale - Australia's second largest on-shore earthquake. The shock was perceptible over 850 kilometres away and some buildings in Perth were damaged as well.

The Big Camera museum opened in 1995 and now has over 1000 cameras on display, as well as projectors, enlargers, processing equipment, magic lanterns, magic-lantern slides, phantoscopes and zoetropes. All the equipment is fully operational.

The Big Camera is located at 11 Dreyer Street, Meckering. Tel: (08) 9625 1335.
